POINT OF DEPARTURE

Late 2019 the Foundation Commemoration Noordenveld (Stichting Herdenken Noordenveld SHN) asked me to make a sketch design for a monument. This text embodies the design concept:

“Point of Departure 1941

​

From here fellow townsmen were taken away

​

They left to never return

​

They were not tolerated and travelled towards their death

​

From this point of departure nobody needs to escape, to disappear

​

Can everyone depart as well as safely return home. With respect and a place for all.”

My initial design concept was accepted. The monument has been placed recently and the official transfer to the Noordenveld Foundation took place on May 2, 2022.

​

The SHN Foundation proposed that I would also create more work based on the theme of crane birds.

Because crane birds, cut out in corten steel, are an integral part of the monument, I decided to manipulate realistic photos of these birds into more colorful and less realistic images.

The images are attached to gold painted panels measuring 30 x 20 x 2,5 cm.

20 different panels are available, each in a limited edition of 20 pieces.
